Supporting Newly Diagnosed Children

The Type 1 Buddy Program is a Girl Scout Gold Award project created by Mia Joy to support children living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Our mission is to connect newly diagnosed children (ages 6 and up) with teen mentors (ages 13–18) who already manage their diabetes. These “buddies” provide encouragement, share real-life tips, and help kids know they are not alone.

Our Programs

💙 For families: If your child has recently been diagnosed, we’d love to connect them with a buddy.

💙 For teens: If you’d like to share your experience and mentor younger kids, join us!

Together, we build confidence, friendship, and hope for kids with Type 1.

Mission Statement

My mission is to create a compassionate community where children and families affected by Type 1 Diabetes feel understood, supported, and never alone—offering guidance, encouragement, and a true sense of belonging.
